Microsoft’s unsuccessful attempt with viral video
Sep 29th
As you have probably noticed i fail to regularly update my blog lately. I apologize for this and i hope that soon i will be able to make it up. But this morning i ran across Microsoft’s attempt to promote Windows 7 with viral video and it made totally made me laugh at them. Then i decided that i should not miss to blog about this and spread the world for their absolutely inadequate video…
So let’s share it… Before celebrating the official launch of Windows 7 in New York, Microsoft go for viral marketing… yet again, yet again unsuccessfully. The brand is trying to recruit fans to organize parties at their houses and celebrate the new operating system. Apart from this, Microsoft’s tactics takes on the aspect of selling from home by inciting users to post their videos across social networks.
Check it out:
Microsoft have not commented on the video yet, but did share that the people’s response to it was “amazing”… I am not going to believe this, however, as people’s comments all over the internet are really far from positive and enthusiastic. Maybe it does not sound so bad as you read this, but watch the video – a totally aggressive and arrogant approach towards people!
Hey… and what’s with that Vaio in the video?! I am hating Vaio and Microsoft together, because latest Vaio’s can not work with OS’s different from Vista… Why? Because Microsoft never bothered to develop software drivers supporting Vaio’s hardware for OS’s different from Vista. So… you buy Vaio and are doomed for life with Vista… How shitty is that?
And hey… does this video suggest that future Vaio’s will doom us to only be able to install Windows 7?
Ahem… enough about Vaio, you got the idea…
Leaving emotions beside, as a marketer my conclusion is the following: technology expert does not by all means equate to viral expert!
Project Natal: Microsoft about to revolutionize video gaming!
Jun 6th
The rumor turned out to be true: in an utmost secrecy, Microsot were preparing for the release of their new video game concept. This concept was presented at the E3 conference in LA.
The concept is amazing! Project Natal is a box that you can place under your tv set, just like Wii/PS. The difference, however, is major. The console picks up the movement of the player in real time. Having this in mind, it turns out that the player no longer needs a controller/joystick. Microsoft presented an introductory video containing a number of fun and family oriented games that they would like to develop.
Though it is just a concept in progress, it is enough to make Nintendo and Sony shiver a bit. This concept is technologically impressive and should really speed up the race for latest new generation video games.
If this concept gets developed, it will give Microsoft international stature (at last; ), and may even dethrone the current market’s video game king – Nintendo.
Meanwhile, we will be wondering about few issues such as how will the camera detect the right person when seveal people are in the same room (especially considering multiplayer games). 2010 is the official date the gameset is set to release and we impatiently await it.
Microsoft envisions the future
Mar 9th
On March 2 Microsoft published a new video online, not a counter I’m a Mac/PC this time, but one that shows people Microsoft Labs’ vision on how technology will have evolved by year 2019.
Remote collaboration, cultural translation, natural user interfaces, multi-touch surfaces, sensor networks, ink recognition, ubiquitous computing, cross-device content sharing, electronic newspapers, electronic boarding cards.
Microsoft has collaborated with partners, customers and leaders in order to “develop scenarios that explore how long-term trends, customer challenges, and emerging technology might converge to improve our lives, both at work and home.” Their goal was to re-imagine productivity by developing new technology solutions, focusing on 3 major areas: natural and intuitive interfaces, seamless and secure connections, contextual and anticipative insights.
These visions were presented by Microsoft’s Business Division presitent Stephen Elop during the Wharton Business Technology Conference on February 28. If you like to read the whole presentation (ppt), click HERE.
